'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 Spoilers, News: Nina Dobrev Confirmed To Come Back As Elena

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is set to return in fall but details about the season remain kept under wraps. However, one out of the many speculations made by fans was recently confirmed when showrunner Julie Plec promised the return of Nina Dobrev in the series.

Since the announcement that the series will be renewed for another season, Nina Dobrev's return has topped speculations. In the series, Nina Dobrev plays two characters and the one that will return is expected to cost the life of Bonnie.

Of the two characters that Dobrev plays in the series, Elena Gilbert is the one who has always been there since the beginning as she is the show's main female protagonist. Her storyline has been so closely linked with her friend Bonnie that she sacrificed herself to allow Bonnie to live.

In the absence of Elena's character in season 7, however, Bonnie lost her powers, making it almost impossible for her to break the spell that links her life with that of Elena.

Meanwhile, Graham has expressed his plan to leave the series after season 8. He made the announcement even when Plec had already confirmed that the upcoming season would be the series' last. There are also rumors that Ian Somerhalder plans on leaving the show so he could join the spinoff of "The Originals."

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres this fall on The CW. The new season is expected to introduce a new demonic creature who will possess the bodies of Damon and Enzo, turning them into serial killers.
