The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Release Date, Plot Spoilers: New Characters, Big Twists, and a New Villian Will Be Arriving

CW Network has not released an exact date for The Vampire Diaries Season 6 premiere, but the show is slated to release this October, 2014. Fans can expect more twists and surprises in the upcoming installment, including an array of new characters.

According to sources, major turmoil is set to take hold in Mystic Falls, as the primary villain will increase his efforts. In a WetPaint report, it is speculated that Elena Gilbert, played by Nina Dobrev, could turn evil in her grief over losing Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), during the collapse of the Other Side.

Stars on the The Vampire Diaries continue to tease fans with their statements. Actor Michael Trevino who plays Tyler, in a Zap2it report said that he will need to find more ways to protect himself as human again, "But it's also nice because now, maybe he won't have to deal with all the extra curriculars that come with being a hybrid or being a werewolf or being a vampire. It will be interesting to see where his journey starts and where it ends up," he said.

Meanwhile, the show's Executive Producer Julie Plec also teased that a new female character will reside in Mystic Falls this season 6. The new character will open relationship doors with either Matt, played by Zach Roerig or Jeremy played by Steven R. McQueen.

Plec reassures that fans will have plenty to get exicted about since many of their favorite characters will encounter twists and turns in their season 6 future. For example, Damon's return to the show brings with it much intrigue about how it will take place, according to TVLine, the actor will definitely be involved in the upcoming installment.

One of the main characters of the show, Stefan played by Paul Wesley, also teased the fans by saying that this season will completely reset the television series. "[The season five finale] definitely establishes new parameters in the environment we'll be shooting in season six, they reset things in a way, and the writers have the ability to now change the circumstances and locations of where the show takes place," said Wesley in TVGuide.
