'The Originals' Season 4 News Update, Rumors: Upcoming Season Marks The End of Series; Features 'The Vampire Diaries' Crossover?

Since the announcement that "The Vampire Diaries" is coming to an end, talks about "The Originals" also being cancelled has resurfaced online.

Speculations about "The Originals" season 4 being the final season got even stronger following the confirmation that it's going to have less episodes compared with the first three seasons. While The CW has yet to comment on the matter, rumors about the show being cancelled and picked up by ABC continue to swirl around.

Right now, "The Originals" season 4 is well on its way. According to reports, the plot of the upcoming season gets more thrilling than ever since it is going to serve as the series finale. Since its debut, the series has been loved by many, especially the Mikaelson family, that they even got their own show. Some fans speculate that since season 4 will mark the end of the series, the new season will treat fans to a crossover of the series' predecessor, "The Vampire Diaries."

Season 4 picks up five years after the season 3 finale. When the show returns, Klaus' and Hayley's daughter Hope is already all grown up and strong enough to save Klaus from the Tunde blade that had left him in a coma for a long time. Some speculate that as Hayley and her daughter look for ways to free Klaus from the curse, Caroline Forbes of "The Vampire Diaries" will come to New Orleans to help Klaus. It can be recalled that Klaus and Caroline previously had an affair at Mystic Falls.

While many speculate that Klaus will be saved next season, some speculate that he will die, and Katherine Pierce will be the cause of his demise. Played by Nina Dobrev, Katherine is said to play a very important role in the upcoming season.

"The Originals" season 4 premieres in January 2017.
