Penny will make an effort to be close to her mother-in-law, Beverly, in the 23^rd episode of "The Big Bang Theory" season 9.

Leonard's wife has always had trouble connecting with his mom. While the previous seasons showed how Penny and Beverly tried to be civil in dealing with each other, it was pretty noticeable that Beverly did not want Penny for his son.

In the upcoming episode titled "The Line Substitution Solution," Penny will have another attempt at winning the heart of Beverly by trying to have a decent conversation with her, hoping that she could get her to like her. However, winning her interest seems pretty implausible as Beverly only has interest in having a conversation with Sheldon.

One spoiler photo for the episode shows Penny looking bummed out while talking to her apathetic mother in law. In the said photo, Penny seems to be doing her best to make the conversation as interesting as possible for her, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, the episode will also feature Sheldon as he hires Stuart to spend some time with Amy while he goes to a movie screening. It seems like an odd pairing, but fans have yet to see how things will work out between them.

In the previous episode, Penny and her friends went to a wine tasting event where Penny stumbled upon Zack, who was not so pleased to see his ex-girlfriend and Leonard together.
