Elevation Mega Church in Charlotte, North Carolina Under Scrutiny Due to Pastor Steven Furtick / Should the Congregation Be Notified of Pastor's Salary?

The debate of whether or not a congregation is entitled to knowing their pastor's salary has reared its head again in Charlotte, North Carolina. Pastor Steven Furtick built a massive house in Charlotte, costing nearly $1.7 million, but he and several other leading ministers in the community collect undisclosed salaries from their respective churches.

Elevation Church's motto is that it's "all about the numbers." The numbers that they share with the congregation are salvations and baptisms, but they do not share the money. Some members of the congregation are upset by the lack of transparency in the church.

Rusty Leonard of MinistryWatch said, "It's sad. It's a great church. Pastor Furtick is a great preacher. He has brought blessings to many. And unfortunately he allowed this situation to get out of control right from the get-go of the organization of the church. If Pastor Furtick had bought a house that was four or five-hundred thousand dollars we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. And that's a big house; that's a very big house. Unfortunately he went way over the top... and he fell into this hubris situation and he's trapped."
