Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 3 Release Date News: PS4, Xbox One Versions Released By Obsidian? (VIDEO)

In a new interview, Obsidian has revealed the videogame company is very interested in finally releasing Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 3 in the future.

"It's something that comes up every three to six months," said Lead Producer Brandon Adler to IGN, "We bring it up and talk about it. Not anything terribly serious, but we just say 'wouldn't it be cool if?' and just develop some ideas for what we'd do with that stuff."

Project Director Josh Sawyer echoes his colleague's passion to finally release the game that many Star Wars fans and gamers have been wanting to play since Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords was released on the original Xbox on December 6, 2004 (while the Windows port was released on February 8, 2005).

"I think there are a lot of the people at the studio that would like to do Knights of the Old Republic 3," said Project Director Josh Sawyer, "I think at that time LucasArts was really focused on what they considered to be extreme, extreme blockbusters and even though the Knights of the Old Republic series was pretty successful, it just never seemed like something that was going to happen at that time. Having said that, a lot of time has passed. I know there are a lot of people at the studio who are really interested in doing a project like that."

The original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (aka KOTOR) was released by Bioware on for the Xbox on July 15, 2003, for Microsoft Windows on November 19, 2003, and Mac OS X on September 7, 2004 in US stores.

Unfortunately, the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 3 was previously cancelled as a result of budgets cuts in 2004, but that has not stop rumors of a possible revival of the release of the much anticipated game.

However, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (aka MMORPG) Star Wars: The Old Republic was instead released by Bioware as the continuation of the popular KOTOR series, which setting takes place 300 years after the events of the second installment of the franchise.

However, according to IGN, since last year, Obsidian had plans to release a new Star Wars RPG game that takes between the previous movie trilogies (setting takes place in the middle of Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope), but there has been no announcement as of yet if the game would be released by Disney in the near future.
