'Star Trek Beyond' Release Date, Cast, Plot: Idris Elba to Play Earth-Exterminating Villain [TRAILER]

Recently, it was revealed that Idris Elba will play the villain in Justin Lin's "Star Trek Beyond."

MNR Daily writes that Elba confirmed that he was set to join Lin's space sci-fi film "Star Trek Beyond." According to the publication, the "Fast and Furious" actor will play the role of a new character named Krail in the film.

Krail is an alien creature that aims to exterminate Earth, in addition to the USS Enterprise and the whole fleet of United Federation of Planets.

In his interview with the publication, Elbas revealed that his character in "Star Trek Beyond" will be different from its predecessors, adding that the film plot would be complex. This means that it would be more than seeing aliens that are trying to invade Earth and the other celestial bodies.

The website added that fans have been speculating his role in the film and how he would make an impact on other characters as well as the film's storyline.

Elba also told MTV that Simon Pegg and the team had written a very interesting and complex exploit for his character.

"Star Trek Beyond" serves as a sequel to J.J. Abrams' 2013 film "Star Trek Into Darkness" and stands as the 13th film in the "Star Trek" film franchise.

Aside from Elba, the film also stars Adam DiMarco, John Cho, Joseph Gatt, Anton Yelchin, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Sofia Boutella, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, and Chris Pine, among others.

With Lin at the helm of the film, Simon Pegg, Doug Jung, Roberto Orci, John Payne, and Patrick McKay are also on board to pen the screenplay of the film.

Lin's "Star Trek Beyond" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on July 22.
