‘Sinister Six’ Movie Cast News, Spider-Man Role Uncertain: Andrew Garfield to Appear as Marvel's Webslinger?

Since Sony announced in December last year, the release of the upcoming film 'Sinister Six', the production company has not said anything else regarding the final cast of actors and actresses.

It is uncertain whether Andrew Garfield will reprise his role of Spider-Man in the villain-centric film, which will open in 2016. There are rumors going around that his role may be rebooted and a new actor will be casted instead.

Some critics think that doing so is a wrong move for Sony as it will confuse and overwhelm viewers who have seen two people as Peter Parker, so far.

Sources also claim of negotiations in play to bring the web-slinger to the Marvel universe, specifically to the 'Avengers' franchise for a possible crossover.

Neither Garfield nor the studio has confirmed or revealed any additional details about this rumor.

'Sinister Six' is the first movie to spin-off from the Spider-Man franchise. It will expand the Spider-Man universe, introducing new characters to people who are only familiar with 'The Amazing Spider-Man' film series.

The 'Sinister Six' involves a team of super villains who come together with the goal to defeat Spider-Man. In the comics, there are 11 groups with different leaders heading the team.

The feature is said to include Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Vulture, Mysterio and Rhino. There are no announcements yet as to who will play the roles.

Drew Goddard has signed on to write and direct the movie, while Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will be the producers.

Garfield said in a public statement that he was excited for the film, but that he's "involved in that or not is kind of immaterial."

Besides 'Sinister Six', Sony also announced another villain-centric spin-off from the Spider-Man franchise. It will be focused on Venom, who last appeared in the 2007 version of 'Spider-Man 3', and set to open in 2016.
