Frank came to ruin Fiona and Sean's nuptials in the finale of 'Shameless' season 6.

The finale of "Shameless" season 6 ended with a major cliffhanger, leaving fans clueless about the futures of its characters.

Titled "Familia Supra Gallegorious Omnia!," the final episode of season 6 aired on Sunday, April 3, with Fiona finally tying the knot with Sean. Unfortunately, though, things went awful when Frank suddenly popped onto the scene to stop the nuptials and announce that the groom has been under the influence of heroin. Frank did the ill-timed revelation on purpose after his plan to kill Sean got thwarted.

In his last-ditch effort to retain joint custody of his son with his ex-wife, Sean had no choice but to bolt from the ceremony.

Following Sean's escape, the show had to go on for the members of the Gallagher family. Lip was brought to the rehab, Frank got thrown off a bridge into the Chicago River, and Fiona was left alone on the curb smoking, still in her wedding dress.

As soon as Sean returned to find Fiona, he admitted to her that Frank's revelation was true and they both decided to go their separate ways.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, "Shameless" executive producer Nancy Pimental hinted at the future of some of the characters.

Talking about Frank, she said: "In his own sick and twisted way, he believes he's a good dad and was doing the right thing. But he's a sociopath who sees it that way. It's so frustrating to the family and Kev and Vee that he never gets it."

Pimental said that while they consider creating new storylines for Fiona and Sean for the next season, "it's the end of them" as far as season 6 is concerned.

She added that viewers of the series should stay tuned until the series returns for its 7th season to know what's ahead of the Gallaghers.

"Shameless" season 7 premieres in 2017 on Showtime.
