‘Saturday Night Live’ Cast News: Brooks Whelan Fired, Show Runner Lorne Michaels Searching for New Cast

"Saturday Night Live' is making big changes for its landmark 40th Season. Recently, Brooks Whelan, who joined the show before Season 39 premiered, took to Twitter to let fans know that he's been let go from the long running NBC series.

"Had a blast and loved every second of it. I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke"¦FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!" he tweeted. A source close to the show confirmed that Whelan will not be returning and stressed that casting changes are normal for the show.

In the last year, "Saturday Night Live' has seen a lot of comedians exit the show, starting with Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig, who are now currently making their mark in Hollywood with several hit movies. Sudeikis stars with Jennifer Aniston in the hit movie 'We're the Millers' and is set to appear in three more films this year, one of which is "Horrible Bosses 2'. Wiig was in June's "How to Train Your Dragon 2' and is about to star in five movies between 2014 and 2015. Seth Meyers also left SNL to host 'Late Night'.

Aside from Whelan, John Milhiser was also fired from "Saturday Night Live', while Nasim Pedrad left the series, followed by Noel Wells.

Among those who are left in SNL are Kenan Thompson, Jay Pharaoh, Bobby Moynahan, and Kate McKinnon. "Saturday Night Live' chief Lorne Michaels is reportedly getting ready to head west to scout new performers for the Fall season.

Showbiz411.com reports that Michaels and staff will hit Portland, Oregon next week, where the comedy scene is apparently big. By the end of August they will have been to most major cities and will find any comic who has built even a slight following.
