Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Alpha Comparison: Review of Price and Specs - Design & Style Changes

After the successful launch of the Galaxy S series, Samsung launched its sleekest phone to date, the Galaxy Alpha, believed to be Samsung's counter on the Apple iPhone 6.

The high-end Samsung Galaxy Alpha will reportedly be a major upgrade from the Galaxy S5. It's evident that the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Alpha have stark differences in design.

The S5 sports a lightweight polycarbonate casing which reportedly got positive reviews from different users.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Alpha is the first Samsung phone to use metal in its casing. Also, at 115 grams, the Galaxy Alpha is deemed as one the lightest smartphones as well.

Business Insider contributor Steve Kovach likened Samsung phones to "plastic playthings."

According to Kovach, Samsung's devices may be "best-in-class" phones with big beautiful displays and powerful processors, but they reportedly need help in the "design" division.

Samsung released the Galaxy Alpha as an answer to users criticizing the overall design aesthetics of Samsung devices.

The Galaxy Alpha has a smaller (4.7-inch) display than the S5 (5.2-inch), and has lower pixel resolution (720 x 1280 pixels) than the S5's HD resolution.

The S5 wins the camera round hands down, having a 16-megapixel camera compared to the Alpha's 12-megapixel camera.

However, both smartphones are able to capture QHD videos and slow motion recording.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Alpha overtakes the S5 in terms of processing power. The Galaxy Alpha boasts of an Octa-core processor compared to the quad-core processor the S5 has.

The Galaxy S5 has a longer battery life with 2,800 mAh battery cell while the Galaxy Alpha has a 1,860 mAh battery.

The Galaxy Alpha is also limited to an internal storage of 32 GB, while the S5 can support both internal and external memory storage.

The Galaxy Alpha is exclusively sold by AT&T in the U.S for $200 with a two-year contract, or $613 without the contract.
