'Iron Man 4' Likely Without Robert Downey Jr. , Does Sign On as Iron Man for 2 more 'Avengers' Movies

Marvel Studios has reached an agreement with Robert Downey Jr. to appear in two more movies, reportedly The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3.

"I'd go start another one tomorrow, but it's not tomorrow," Downey told EW when Iron Man 3 was debuting. "And there are a lot of other considerations. But I also don't like the idea of leaving people hanging or leaving people in the lurch."

Downey is reported to have made over $50 million for The Avengers and his original contract was up with Iron Man 3.

Downey is not expected to be in the next Iron Man movie even though Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said he had hoped to continue working with him.

"I believe there will be a fourth Iron Man film and a fifth and a sixth and a 10th and a 20th," the producer said. "I see no reason why Tony Stark can't be as evergreen as James Bond. Or Batman for that matter. Or Spider-Man. I think Iron Man is a character just like that." Feige declined any further comment Thursday.

The tentative date for The Avengers 2 is a release of May 1, 2015 with filming to  start in March of next year. Writer-director Joss Whedon is currently working on The Avengers 2 script.

The big question is still unanswered for certain if Robert Downey Jr. will play Iron Man again, but it is not looking like it at the moment.
