Reach Records and the Elevation of Christian Hip-Hop; Meet Lecrae, Andy Mineo, Trip Lee, KB, and Tedashii [VIDEOS]

Reach Records

The artists of Reach Records have been around for around 10 years, but in the last two, the emcees on the label have really worked to elevate the name of Christian hip-hop.

While Christian rap has always seeped in among audiences, it has never infiltrated the mainstream and at the same time been as accepted by the Christian music industry.

How are these rappers doing this you may ask? Each artist on this list promotes God unabashedly, but still keeps it real in their music. The faith element is strong, but so is the technique and production expected in hip-hop. The guys cross promote with each other, tour extensively, and have a leader who's album reached No. 1.

This is not to slight anyone else in Christian rap music, because there is a ton of talent out there, and a lot of emcees doing it well. However, for some reason, the guys on Reach are getting the most exposure.

So let's meet the guys responsible for putting it on the map.

LECRAE

What better way to kick off the Reach Records list than with their leader Lecrae. The emcee took major strides this year in getting Christ inspired hip-hop to the mainstream with his latest album Anomaly.

The emcee has been touring non-stop and is currently in Europe for another leg of the Anomaly Tour. He also recently announced he would be working on a book, and has continued to make his presense known whether it be a 'Jimmy Fallon' appearance or as guest chaplain for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Lecrae has seven albums, two EPs, and two mixtapes.

ANDY MINEO

Andy Mineo is in the same boat as Lecrae, and is steadily being recognized as a respected emcee by all audiences. He has made appearances on Sway in the Morning and was featured on a BET Cypher.

He is currently working on a followup to his widely successful Never Land EP and recently dropped new single "Lay Up" featuring Wordsplayed.

Mineo has released one album, on EP, two mixtapes, and one compilation album.

TRIP LEE

Trip Lee has been a Christian hip-hop mainstay for around 10 years already, and is known for "knowledge dropping."

He most recent album Rise came out of a time where he was focusing more on his calling to be a pastor. Many thought he was retired, but he was still pounding away writing raps, except more ministry minded. From out of this album came a book of the same name.

Trip has five albums, one EP, and compilation album.

KB

KB is currently one of the hottest rappers in Christian hip-hop right now, and has been making waves with his infectious energy and profound lyrics.

He just released the acclaimed Tomorrow We Live which includes his hit song "Sideways featuring Lecrae. Last year KB was featured on Family Force 5's smash single "BZRK," helping his hip-hop standing grow into the rock world.

KB has two full length albums, one EP, and one mixtape.

TEDASHII

Tedashii has grown to be one of Christian Hip-Hop's most respected veterans, and is known for his versatility and honesty.

His latest album, Below Paradise, was crafted out of the tragic loss of his son. The brutal openness and willingness to heal and provide inspiration through the album, had many rap fans in awe of his character.

Tedashii has released four albums and an EP.

All these emcees come together, with the addition of Canon and DJ Official, to form the 116 Clique. The name comes from Romans 1:16 which states, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile."

The collective has three albums, a remix album, and an EP.
