On Friday, legendary rapper Snoop Dogg defied all preconceived notions about the artist as he debuted his first Gospel album, the much anticipated, Bible of Love. As BREATHEcast previously noted, the 32-track double album project has been close to the rapper's heart, inspired by his grandmother, the late Dorothy Tate.

Bible of Love is Dogg's 16th album, and the first release from his new imprint All The Time Entertainment, created to provide more opportunities for Gospel music artists. In fact, the album features a long list of well-known Gospel artists, handpicked by Dogg and executive producer Lonny Bereal to guest on the album, including Charlie Wilson, Rance Allen, Kim Burrell, Isaac Carree, The Clark Sisters, Dazz Dillinger, Faith Evans, K-Ci, John P. Kee, Patt LaBelle, Mali Music, Jazze Pha, Marvin Sapp, B. Slade, and Tye Tribbett.

While Gospel music may be a first for Dogg, the rapper is well known for not being afraid to try new things, often with great success. In addition, Dogg says now is the right time, explaining, "As the country is in one of its heaviest times and is so divided, I wanted to make an album that spreads love and unity around the world."

Bible of Love is already receiving glowing reviews from outlets such as USA Today and New York Daily News, and speaking to The Grio, the rapper said people should not be surprised at his change of direction, pointing to all the ways he has tried to help the community over the years.

Responding to criticism that his new project does not come from the right place, he told The Grio, "I really didn't care about the criticism because I'm doing this for spiritual reasons. This is not a money-making project, it's a spirit-making project so my spirit is in the right place."

As a heads-up to people still trying to come to grips with the rapper's new musical direction, Dogg says he will follow up Bible of Love with more music through All The Time Entertainment. He is also working on a Bible of Love stage production.
