PS4 Update 2.0 Bugs: New Operating System Has Many Glitches

Even though Sony has upgraded the operating system used by the PlayStation 4, many gamers have been reporting problems with the new update. While, the PS4's 2.0 update can be downloaded now, it might be a good idea to wait.

Gamers on forums like NeoGaf have found many glitches in the new operating system. Some people can't connect to apps like YouTube or Netflix. Some people can't get their games to start, while others can't sign into the PlayStation Network.

A particularly annoying glitch involves the new "rest mode," a renamed version of the "standby mode." Some gamers have found they can't reboot their consoles once they've gone into standby mode, and that their buttons and controllers are unresponsive. Evidently, when this occurs the console's lights flash orange, indicating a problem.

"We're aware of issues reported by some PS4 users following the release of PS4's latest system software update, v 2.00," a Sony spokesperson told Games Beat, "We're investigating these issues and will provide an update once we have more information."

These kinds of problems tend to occur when many big updates are introduced to a system. It's also likely that only a small percentage of PS4 owners are being affected. One of them is Games Beat's managing editor, Jared Wilson, who has had trouble connecting to apps. He also found that navigating menus would freeze the entire operating system for up to 30 seconds at a time while things loaded.

The update is one of the biggest that PlayStation 4 has introduced. The most exciting feature is SharePlay, which lets a gamer invite a friend to virtually play a game with them. The update also boasts YouTube integration, themes, and the USB Music Player.
