‘Prometheus 2: Paradise’ Release Date: Premiere Delayed to 2016: Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace Reprise Roles [VIDEO]

The highly-acclaimed alien sci-fi movie of 2012 has been given a sequel with a tentative title, 'Prometheus 2: Paradise', which is currently in the works. Unfortunately for fans, director Ridley Scott had to push back the release date to sometime in 2016 due to conflicting schedules.

Scott, who is also directing 'The Martian' (set to release in November, 2015), admitted that he already has his hands full, but assured that the script to the sequel is finished. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the British director praised the drafts written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, "It's written and it's damn good," the 76-year-old Scott confirmed. "Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years-despite the accident..."

The first film in the franchise 'Prometheus' was a blockbuster hit in the US and grossed $400 million worldwide. Writer Damon Lindelof explained that the movie's competitive edge does not solely rely on it being an alien story, but that it tackles the origin of man concept as well.

"Space exploration in the future is going to evolve into this idea that it's not just about going out there and finding planets to build colonies. It also has this inherent idea that the further we go out, the more we learn about ourselves. The characters in this movie are preoccupied by the idea: what are our origins?" Lindelof said.

Noomi Rapace, who plays the role of scientist Elizabeth Shaw, as well as Michael Fassbender (Android David) will be reprising their characters after they survived the flight from the planet.
