‘Power Rangers’ 2017 Cast: Filming Kicks Off Begins in Vancouver; Movie To Retain 90s Vibe

Production for the "Power Rangers" reboot has reportedly started in Vancouver Canada with the film anticipated to pay tribute to its 90s roots.

Director Dean Israelite previously told Entertainment Weekly that the updated version of the TV classic would still highlight the diversity previously featured in the series.

But don't expect the same campy special effects from the TV series in the "Power Rangers" reboot, and it stars with the suits.

"One key that's different to the Power Ranger suits is that they're not really suits that people get into," Israelite said. "They're suits that morph onto our kids, so they already have this almost metaphysical quality to them."

The "Power Rangers" reboot will star RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston aka the Blue Ranger; Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart aka the Pink Ranger; Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor aka the Black Ranger; Becky G. as Trini Kwan aka the Yellow Ranger, and Dacre Montogomery as Jason Lee Scott aka the Red Ranger.

"Pitch Perfect 2" director Elizabeth Banks, meanwhile, will play the big baddie, Rita Repulsa.

The synopsis for the "Power Rangers" reboot reads, "Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove - and the world - is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late."

The release date for the "Power Rangers" reboot is set for March 23, 2017.
