Pope Francis Embraces 'Big Bang Theory' and Says Evolution and God 'Require' Each Other; God is Not a 'Magician'

Pope Francis

Pope Francis raised a few eyebrows in the Catholic church as he declared he is a firm believer in the "Big Bang Theory" and some forms of evolution while speaking at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

According to Independent, the Pope believes that scientific theories and God "require" each other to prove our existence.

"When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so," Francis said, "He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfilment."

He further went on to say that the scientific origins of the world do not "contradict the intervention of the divine creator."

He continued, "Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve."

Independent reported that Pope Francis is continuing the line of thinking started by other Popes all the way down to Pope Pius XII.

Prior to Francis, Benedict XVI who held differing views on the subject and believed that a combination of science and faith could bring humans closer to knowing our origins. "...evolution in the sense of common ancestry might be true, but evolution in the neo-Darwinian sense - an unguided, unplanned process - is not," said Cardinal Schoenborn, who was a close associate of Benedict XVI.

According to NowTheEndBegins, the Catholic church is no longer teaching the standard Creation story of the Earth being made in six days. They are saying it is an allegory for how the world was formed.
