PlayStation 4K Specs, Price, Release Date Rumors Roundup: Console to 14nm/16nm chips with 3D 'FinFET' transistors

To all PlayStation gamers and enthusiast out there, as we all know by now, Sony will be releasing a new PlayStation console soon. However, it is not yet the PlayStation 5. The new console will be featuring a 4k resolution, increasing every game's visuals.

A potential PlayStation which has 4K features might be named PlayStation 4.5 or PlayStation 4k. People may also call it PS4 Slim because of the existing APU shrunk to a 14/16nm production process, enhanced with minor boosts to functionality. The ability to shrink down the size of the chip can either be used to make things devices portable or be used to double up the previous size's power in terms of performance.  

According to Country Gamer, the updated version of the PS4 won't actually feature much on performance improvements, however, when it comes to a graphics, it will stand out among all gaming devices out there.

According to Euro Gamer, here's what we might expect:

  • Twice as powerful in boost in GPU performance to the PlayStation 4.
  • Polaris will have support for 4K, HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2 and HDR.
  • Would have the same price when the PlayStation 4 was first released at £359/$399.
  • Games will still be the same but with enhanced visuals as the resolution may be get past 1080p.
  • The console would be full compatible with 4K screens, including the next-gen media.
  • The console also be compatible with PlayStation 4's previous games.
  • HDR support for gaming on 4K displays, even if gaming stays at 1080p resolution.
