Oscar Pistorius Murder Trial Case Update: Pistorius Guilty of Culpable Murder

After the South African judge delivered her verdict on Thursday in the murder trial, Oscar Pistorius has been found guilty of shooting and killing his girlfriend on Valentine's Day a year ago.

According to Judge Thokozile Masipa, there was not enough evidence to rule him out as a murderer. He was charged with culpable murder for releasing four shots through a locked bathroom door in his home, which caused the death of his girlfriend then, the 29 years old model, Reeva Steenkamp.

During his trial, he said he heard a noise through the bathroom door and thought there was an intruder. He shot his 9mm pistol as a self-defense act, according to his statement.

Pistorius could serve up to 15 years in prison on the culpable homicide charge, but he will not be punished until next month.

According to The Week, the latest news is judge Masipa provided the bail application for Pistorius. She recapped on the contentions made by guard legal advisor Barry Roux and prosecutor Gerrie Nel. She has accordingly conceded the bail application, Masipa consented to defer until 13 October.

Other than that, Barry Roux and prosecutor Gerrie Nel advanced their contentions for whether Pistorius ought to be given bail.
