Minecraft PS4, Xbox One Release Date: New Versions Coming in August 2014 - 4J Twitter Update

Although 4J Studios has yet to make any formal announcement regarding the release of Minecraft editions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it is presumed that they will be launched sometime later this month.

Acknowledging that they are working on the games, the developer recently tweeted, "We're still working our way through the bugs. We'll let you know when we hand over to the Cert testing teams!"

It is also expected that Minecraft for the Xbox One and PS4 will be approximately 36 times larger than the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. However, the date could just be a placeholder.

According to 4J Studios, they were still working on the Xbox One and PS4 port, and the Xbox 360 version (and most probably the PS3 version) have yet to be updated. The developer retweeted, "Stopping X360 updates because of Next Gen versions?" ...err, no we're not stopping making updates for X360 :) #MinecraftXBLA."

Mojang and 4J Studios recently disclosed a number of specs for the next-gen versions of the game:

PS4

  • Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition will be launched on the PlayStation Network in August bringing in considerably larger worlds and a better draw distance compared to the Playstation 3 + Vita Edition.
  • The game will incorporate the entire features list from the last Playstation 3 version and be available for $19.99.
  • Players who bought Playstation 3 Edition from the Playstation Network will be able to upgrade for $4.99 for a minimum of a year following the release date.
  • 4J Studios is closely working with Sony Computer Entertainment to explore ways to enable upgrade from the Blu-ray disc version of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition to Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition. More information will be provided prior to the release.
  • Players having Playstation 3 Edition or Playstation 3 + Vita Edition saves will be able to import their worlds to Playstation 4. However, they will not be able to transfer saves from Playstation 4 to Playstation 3/Vita for technical reasons.
  • Several, but not the entire DLC skins and texture packs purchased by the players for Playstation 3 Edition will be available for use in Playstation 4 Edition.
