Matthew McConaughey Reveals How His Relationship with Jesus Was Strengthened After Having Children [VIDEO]

'True Detective' star Matthew McConaughey recently revealed in an interview how his relationship with God changed after he had children with his wife Camila Alves.

The world-renowned actor currently attends a non-denominational church in Texas with his wife and their three kids Levi (6 years old), Vida (4 year-old) and Livingston (2 years old) every Sunday.

"It's (his church) based in the faith that Jesus is the son of God, that He died for our sins, but many different denominations come in," said McConaughey to GQ Magazine.

"As soon as we had children, I was like, 'You know what? That was important to my childhood.' Even if it was just for the ritual of giving an hour and a half on Sunday to yourself, to pray and to think about others, even if you're tired or whatever. I noticed how much I missed it and needed it. It's a time for me to take inventory of my last week, to look at what's in the future and say my thank-you's and think about what I can work on to do better."

Previously, the 44-year-old Uvalde, Texas native received a mixed reaction after he praised God in his Oscar Awards acceptance speech when he won the prestigious Best Actor accolade on March 2, 2014.

"First off I want to thank God, because he's the one I look up to, he's graced my life with opportunities which I know are not of my hand or any other human kind. He has shown me that it's a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates. In the words of the late Charlie Laughton, who said, 'When you got God you got a friend and that friend is you,'" said McConaughey.

The 'Dazed and Confused' actor reveals that despite the fact he completely believes in the theory of evolution, he knows that God is in control of everything, especially humanity's everyday life.

"The Prime Moovah! The Wave Maker!... Somebody who can help answer my questions. Someone who has a hand in all of this miracle we call life, which I believe is a miracle," said McConaughey to GQ Magazine.
