The nominations for Wii U game of the year have just been announced by Gamespot, a leader in gaming reviews and previews. The list includes 'Super Smash Bros.', 'Bayonetta 2', 'Shovel Knight' and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze'. However, the universally popular game, 'Mario Kart 8', has been declared Game of the Year 2014.

According to Latin Post, praising 'Mario Kart 8', Gamespot said that the game has been enhancing "fun and challenging competitive play" by constantly introducing new and attractive features.

The report says that 'Mario Kart 8' has clearly been a thrill for fans of the series, as it added the latest racing circuit designs as well as anti-gravity karts enabling players to drive upside down. In addition, the players were also given the pleasures of underwater racing, handling hang-gliders, and motorbikes.

According to Gamespot, 'Mario Kart 8' presents never-ending appeal. The site recommends that if players have to opt for just one Wii U game this year, they should essentially go for 'Mario Kart 8'.

Writing for Destructoid, Chris Carter has asserted that karting has never been so appealing and goes on to attribute this to 'Mario Kart 8', which has regenerated his love for this game

The enthusiastic reviewer wrote, "I barely played Mario Kart Wii due to a lack of interest, and I was let down in many ways by the underwhelming Mario Kart 7. But thanks to the magic of Mario Kart 8, I'm all in again just like the olden days. It helps that it's one of the most gorgeous and breathtaking games on the market right now."
