Macbook Air 2016 Release Date News, Specs, Price Rumors: A Touch Screen Is Inevitable?

The rumors about the Macbook Air 2016 having a detachable screen could not be confirmed for now, as Apple typically declines to lend credence to all the speculations spreading like wildfire.

The report about the detachable screen was possibly jumpstarted by Ryan Reith, program director with IDC, who talked to Forbes about the future of Macbook Air 2016, and not necessarily information coming from Apple.

"The way that we tend to view the iPad Pro is that it's kind of a stopgap solution until they get a Mac line to the point of a touch screen and possibly detachable keyboard," he told the magazine.

"I think [a touch Mac] is inevitable. There's nothing from the supply chain or from Apple that supports that right now - I just think it's inevitable...I don't know if that's two years out or what."

By giving his analysis, Reith unwittingly started rumors that have been shared by various Internet tech sites about the Macbook Air 2016 featuring a detachable screen.

"The biggest change is likely to be in the Pros' processors, and while there are rumours of detachable touchscreens we'd take them with a hefty pinch of salt," Tech Radar warned.

As to the release date, however, every report is consistent about the Macbook Pro 2016 being launched during the WWDC, the Apple's annual developer event, this coming June. The laptop is expected to be priced at $1,119 range for the 13-inch device and $2,099 for the 15-inch Mac.

The rumors also alleged that the Macbook Air 2016 will feature a Retina display. "Other speculated features include 9 hours of battery backup, Force Touch enabled Touchpad, USB Type-C, Siri for Mac, Touch ID fingeprint scanner, support for external graphics and dual-band a/c Wi-Fi," said IB Times.
