'Low Winter Sun' Premiere August 10 on AMC / Season 1 Cast Inspired by City of Detroit / 'Sun' Series the New 'Breaking Bad'? [TRAILER]

AMC is kicking off their Fall lineup this weekend with a few high profile premieres, including new series Low Winter Sun. Season 1 of the upcoming drama premieres August 10 at 10 PM, right after its sister show and AMC flagship series Breaking Bad.

Also like Breaking Bad, you may not want to watch Low Winter Sun on a full stomach. It's tough, it's gritty and it puts Detroit in the spotlight.

Like most successful shows in the States these days, Low Winter Sun is based on a British miniseries that is set in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The cast and crew of Low Winter Sun have been filming Season 1 in Detroit since April.

"This is the first day of Episode 4 and it's a 10-episode season," says executive producer Chris Mundy. "In some ways ... it feels like we're wrapping up. And at the same time, we're still just learning how to do it. It's an odd feeling. I know it's going to go by like a blink."

Though the show centers around, it's not trying to condemn the city of Detroit. In fact some of the Season 1 cast are connecting with the people they've met who want to preserve their beloved city.

Actress Sprague Grayden, who plays Maya on Low Winter Sun uses the opinions of Detroit citizens as inspiration for her character.

"They want to save their city. They're so open about their experiences here. I love the DIA and the museums, but the people themselves, expressing their raw experiences and their emotions about what's going on with them, in a lot of ways it's a privilege to see and hear," says Grayden.

In fact, Detroit's local film community has helped out a lot on set of the new series. Featured extra Henry Frost III from Ann Arbor has been involved in past projects like Detroit 1-8-7 and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Is he staying in Detroit?

"Oh, no. I'm going to Atlanta," says Frost of the busy Southern film hub. "I'm going to Atlanta. They're turning into what Michigan was supposed to be."

Tune in to the Low Winter Sun Season 1 premiere August 10, at 10 PM on AMC.
