Lecrae Tells Hot 97 He Wants 'Music to Speak for Itself' on Stage with Run DMC and LL Cool J at Christmas Concert [VIDEO]

Christian emcee Lecrae was on Hot 97 to speak about his upcoming performance this Friday with Run DMC and LL Cool J at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn.

Lecrae was asked about a caller who previously called the Ebro in the Morning radio show on Hot 97 who was upset that a Christian would share the stage with secular rappers.

"I'm gonna be me, you should want me to be me, anyway and everywhere. You shouldn't want me to just be me in the church. You should want me to be me everywhere I go and carry what I carry," he responded.

The Anomaly rapper was then asked if he thought the fact that he's a Christian was being thrown around too much. Lecrae said he understood where it was coming from because it is his topic of interest. He likened it to a rapper who wrote songs about his experiences on the streets or with drugs, that is where their perspective is. "It's what I do," he said, "At the end of the day, hopefully the music speaks for itself."

"Christmas in Brooklyn brings together two world-renowned stations with two legendary acts in hip-hop as well as new artists we've come to love," said Deon Levingston, general manager of Emmis NY according to MStarz. "As we come off the highly successful 10th anniversary of Circle of Sisters and begin to prep for HOT 97's Summer Jam, Emmis NY remains committed to delivering our listeners once-in-a-lifetime experiences they can't get anywhere else. We're in full holiday spirit mode and look forward to providing our listeners with the chance to see their favorite artists, many of whose careers began on WBLS and continued to excel on HOT 97. Emmis NY is excited to celebrate the holidays with our fans in New York!"

Tickets are in the price range of $19.99 to $225, and there are only a few thousand left. VIP tickets are going for $700 and include everything from front row seats to memorabilia.

Lecrae has been nominated in the Best Rap Performance category for the 2015 Grammy Awards next to big names Drake ("0 to 100/The Catch Up"), Eminem ("Rap God"), Kendrick Lamar ("i"), and Childish Gambino ("3005").

Lecrae's nod comes for his song "All I Need is You," and this nomination is especially huge because it is not for a Christian category. He was able to infiltrate the mainstream to be considered.
