Lecrae Stars in Christian Themed Movie 'Believe Me'; Plays Doctor in Film About a Fake Charity (VIDEO)

Christian hip-hop artist Lecrae will be making his debut on the big screen this fall in the movie "Believe Me," and fans will also be excited to learn that the official trailer has been released.

The movie will be out on September 26, and the rapper will play the role of Dr. Malmquist. Other actors in "Believe Me" include Nick Offerman, Alex Russell, and Christopher McDonald.

"Desperate, broke, and out of ideas, four college seniors start a fake charity to embezzle money for tuition," the movie's description reads on YouTube.

Lecrae was recently discussed in an episode of Dead End Hip-Hop on YouTube, where they questioned whether the emcee would ever find mainstream success.

"Do you ever think Lecrae can kind of be that guy in the mainstream level?" one of the show's guests asked the panel of speakers on the subject.

As the show continued to develop the panel began speaking on the topic of Kanye West's unexpected hit single "Jesus Walks." The song was a smash success despite being all about Jesus.

One of the panel members felt Lecrae is "too Christian" and thinks the only way a Christian emcee can break through the mainstream is if they reach it with another song first. They use Kanye as an example of someone who had a few tracks out already before coming up with "Jesus Walks." He was already popular, and they feel Lecrae is too established and known as a Christian to be taken seriously and make the jump. "It's too late for Lecrae, he's already got that stigma."

"He can get bigger, but he won't crossover," he continued.

Lecrae is a rare breed as he is a combination of Christian and conscious hip-hop. He speaks clearly about a message in his music whether it is the gospel, or something that gets believers and non-believers alike to think about.

Lecare is currently one of the largest rappers in Christian music genre. His voice and message are already starting to seep through the cracks of the mainstream, and as of last year he appeared in the BET Awards Hip-Hop Cypher. Perhaps this year's movie debut will help him push further into the minds of non-believers.
