Lecrae & 116 Clique Documentary 'Unashamed World' Releases January 2016; Film Highlights Rappers Meteoric Rise in Christian Music

Unashamed World

Christian emcee and Reach Records co-founder Lecrae is gearing up for the release of a documentary about his career called "Unashamed World" that will debut in January 2016, reported Rapzilla.

According to the article, Lecrae started this film back in 2010 and had a two-year time period for it. However, Lecrae's life began changing significantly and the story kept getting bigger as over a thousand hours of footage has been recorded since 1998. All of this will be compiled into just 90 minutes.

Art Hooker, who also worked on the "This is Fatherhood" campaign with President Obama, is making the film, and got to know the emcee in 1998. They met after he saw Lecrae in a rap cypher while at University and even suggested the rapper use his talents for Jesus.

In fact, Hooker is the man who helped bring the emcee to the Lord after Lecrae accepted an invitation to a Christian conference. It was there that Lecrae discovered who Jesus was and dedicated his life, and his craft to serving God.

According to Rapzilla, the two would remain good friends but lost touch after Lecrae's Reach Records changed locations in 2006. The relationship was rekindled in 2010 and Hooker decided he would like to create two documentaries surrounding the 116 Clique's success and Lecrae's tour in Africa. Then of course Lecrae blew up in such an unexpected way, appearing on TV, winning Grammy's, and hitting No. 1 with his album Anomaly. All this was integral to the story that needs to be told.

"There's a lot of content that we're looking at other ways to utilize, particularly around the idea of creating some sort of learning program to teach people some of the principles that we'll be outlining in the film," Hooker said to Rapzilla.

Lastly, Hooker said the film was made "for the fans" and could not have been made without their help as crowdfunding played a significant role in the creation of it.
