Kendrick Lamar News: Rapper Talks Ferguson, Iggy Azalea, & Macklemore

Rapper Kendrick Lamar has recently weighed in on some of the happenings in the Ferguson riots, and has revealed a few choice words on the Iggy Azalea controversy.

"I wish somebody would look in our neighborhood knowing that it's already a situation, mentally, where it's f***ed up. What happened to [Michael Brown] should've never happened. Never. But when we don't have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us? It starts from within. Don't start with just a rally, don't start from looting -- it starts from within," Kendrick stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Kendrick seemed to express his belief on the issue being internal. His outlook on the situation was led on from his description of his youth and growing up in a low-income neighborhood in Compton. There he describes how he was a product of his own environment, and much of his music is reflective of this.

"We're in the last days, man -," he goes on to say, "I truly in my heart believe that. It's written. I could go on with Biblical situations and things my grandma told me. But it's about being at peace with myself and making good with the people around me."

He is later asked about how he feels about other rappers at the moment. Iggy Azalea's name came up shortly thereafter prompting his response on the controversy surrounding her "illegitimate" success.

"She's doing her thing," he says.,"Let her. People have to go through trials and tribulations to get where they at. Do your thing, continue to rock it, because obviously God wants you here."

This comment also prompted him to respond to his similar situation in where rapper Macklemore beat him out for the Grammy for "The Best Rap Album of the Year." He expressed having no ill will and actually respecting Macklemore as an artist.
