Kendrick Lamar New Album 2014 Release Date News: Rapper Bares His Soul Regarding Faith in New 'i' Single [VIDEOS]

Rapper Kendrick Lamar's new single "i" revealed his views regarding faith and religion while he also provides inspiration to his listeners about loving yourself.

The 27-year-old Compton native is one of the most successful rappers in the Hip-hop industry today, and although he uses explicit language in his music he has been known to tackle religious themes as well.

"I've been through a whole lot / Trials and tribulations but I know God / Satan want to put me in a bow tie / Pray that the holy water don't go dry," said Lamar in the "i" song which will be on the followup album to good Kid, m.A.A.d. City.

In the aforementioned single, the voice of a man (who sounds like a southern Baptist pastor) introduces the young rapper. The song is about loving yourself despite the fact "The world is a ghetto with guns and picket signs," according to Lamar's viewpoint.

"We got a young brother that stands for something. We got a young brother that believes in all of us," said the announcer who sounds like a minister, "Brother Kendrick Lamar: he's not a rapper, he's a writer, he's an author. And if you read between the lines, we'll learn how to love one another. But you can't do that, I said you can't do that, without loving yourself first."

Lamar admitted in previous interviews that even though he and his parents are not the most religious people, he does believe in God.

"I always do quote-unquote religious songs or whatever you want to call them from the standpoint where I'm trying to find answers. . . . I'm a sinner and I'm trying to figure myself out," said Lamar, according to a MTV Hive report three years ago. "It never sounds preachy. It sounds like a person who's really confused by what the world has put upon him."

According Hollowverse, despite the fact the hip-hop artist believes in God, he does not consider himself a Christian, but a monotheist.

"Believe in God, it's only one God. F*** all that religion s***. Believe in one God, and do right. Try your best to do right, we ain't perfect. Just do that and everything will be straight," said Lamar to TheTruthIsScary.Com website.
