Keith and Kristyn Getty hit New York City with their powerful production of 'Joy - An Irish Christmas' Wednesday night and BREATHEcast was in attendance. Thousands of people worshiped Jesus as they heard the gospel message of the birth of Jesus through song, word, and dance.

The talented Getty couple were accompanied for the night by legendary musician Ricky Skaggs, both a children's and adult choir and their band mates. The evening from start to finish was about the reason for the season, Jesus and His birth.

Held in the Stern Auditorium almost 3,000 people gathered together for the event. The night kicked off with a speaker who had a very heavy Irish accent explaining that Jesus was the true importance of the holiday season. Once Keith and Kristyn hit the stage the Christmas carols began in true Irish fashion, featuring banjos, violins, guitars, and a bagpipe playing. The production also featured some traditional Irish step dancing.

Along with performing beautiful arrangements of some of Christmas' biggest songs, the couple did some of their popular original Christmas and worship songs including the well-known tune "In Christ Alone." Kristyn also announced that she and her husband recently found out that they were expecting their third child as the crowd cheered on.

What perhaps was most compelling is that both Christian and non-Christians gathered in the theater and sung praises to Jesus for his birth. With sing along lyrics displayed on the theater wall almost every song warranted the audience's cooperation. There were moments where everything toned-down as well and Kristyn grab a Bible and read the Christmas story straight from the scriptures as everyone attentively listened.

A BREATHEcast favorite moment was when country/bluegrass musician Ricky Skaggs took the stage and played the mandolin like no other. He also explained that the style of bluegrass music actually got its origins in Ireland.

The Getty's continued the night with more music sharing intimate footage of their family, introducing the crowd to their talented band members, and every song getting better and better as time passed. Perhaps another moment, which really pulled on the heartstrings of the audience, was the performance and introduction of the popular Christmas tune "Silent Night." The couple provided some history of the truce that happened the Christmas of 1914 when soldiers made temporary peace with their enemies because German soldiers sung "Silent Night," and got into the Christmas spirit even in the midst of war.

Finally the compelling concert ended with an Irish blessing that Keith and Kristyn performed. The speaker of the night came out one last time reminded every one that we celebrate Christmas because of Jesus and what he came to do and then everyone hit the stage one last time for an encore performance. Although the concert was seemly long and very Christian, the majority of everyone in attendance stayed, participated, and left full of joy.
