'Jesus Christ Superstar': Is Play a Witnessing Tool or a Mockery of Jesus? Destiny's Child Singer's Fans Sound Off (VIDEO)

Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child joins the cast of Broadway's "Jesus Christ Superstar" 50-city arena tour. Is this play a good witnessing tool or a a mockery of Jesus? Fans of the singer chimed in to express their feelings.

The Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice rock musical production is kicking off a 50-city, North American arena tour on June 9 in New Orleans. The play will star a slew of super stars including Williams, Incubus front man Brandon Boyd, and N'Sync pop singer JC Chasez.

Boyd and Williams, play Judas and Mary, and they announced the big news on "Good Morning America" as they took the stage on Friday morning to sing a number from the tour.

Chasez will play Pilate, and The Sex Pistols' John Lydon will play King Herod. Ben Foster will play the role of Jesus on the U.K. reality competition show, "Superstar."

Williams took to Facebook and said, "We are so happy to announce that we are going on a 50-city tour starting June 9th in New Orleans."

The musical is loosely based on the Gospel's accounts of the last week of Jesus' life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem. It of course ends with the crucifixion. It highlights political and interpersonal struggles between Judas Iscariot and Jesus; struggles that are not in the Bible.

Upon hearing the news, fans immediately expressed their opinions to the 33-year-old singer. Since her Destiny's Child success, Williams ventured into urban contemporary gospel and Christian music. Some of her followers celebrated the news while other voiced their concern.

"Jesus Christ super star doe.....you know dat don sound right. God doesn't even like fame [sic]," one fan posted on Facebook.

Another said, "Happy she doing something for him but the lord said be wise."

Some one else agreed, "God is sooo so good. I'm proud of you guys for doing such an honorable thing. And under God's orders. Praises be on to you my sista in Christ."

While another opposed and told the singer, "Sis this play mocks Jesus, everything that has Jesus in the Title isn't good. Just Google Jesus Christ Superstar mockery."
