Jamie Grace's Testimony Reveals Battle with Tourettes, ADHD, OCD, and Anxiety; Despite Illnesses She Overcomes in the Lord

Jamie Grace recently opened up about her battle with various ailments in an interview, and shares how her faith led her to become a conqueror.

According to Herald Review, the young singer has struggled with Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, OCD, anxiety issues, and echolalia.

"The illness really altered my life, taking me to a place where I had to decide, is faith still possible, and is joy still real?" Grace said, "I prayed all day long to not have Tourette syndrome, but it was probably not until I was 14 that I began to understand faith a little better. Because eventually, we're all going to get sick or lose something we love, but we don't have to face the challenge alone. I learned how to worship God even when I was hurting."

Grace has always made music a part of her life. She used to travel with her mother who was a gospel singer. Both of her parents were pastors and would often include their children in productions and during worship services, in the behind the scenes areas.

"I caught the bug really, really early," she said, "Then, when my symptoms started, I drifted away from it until my uncle got me a drum set. Physically, those drums were a lifesaver to relieve all the tension, and then I started on guitar and piano. Soon, my sister and I were street performers in Atlanta because the more I was involved in music, the less I was overwhelmed by the symptoms."

Eventually she caught the eye of TobyMac and his label Gotee Records. From there Grace has become the darling of Christian music and at 22-years-old has already been nominated for a Grammy Award.

"I was 19 when the debut single was released," she said, "It did throw me for a loop, but at the same time, it seemed like a lot of work finally paying off. To the outside world it seems like things happened really fast, but that breakthrough followed three or four years of just constant 'no' after 'no' from labels and TV shows and movies, everywhere I tried to get my music featured. Eventually, I said to God, 'If you make me a star someday that's great, but if I stay at Jamie Grace status leading worship at church, that's fine, too.'"

Grace has not let her new found fame and success go to her head; her goal has always been the same, "I just want to love people and encourage them. I don't really have to have people say they love the music itself, what I hope they love is the message behind the music," she shared.
