Idris Elba News, Rumors: Former James Bond Actor Roger Moore's Quote Mistaken as Racist Remark

Actor Idris Elba's consideration of the James Bond role has sparked quite the controversy on social media recently, after former 007 actor, Roger Moore's comment on the actor was misquoted.

In an interview with Paris Match, the 87-year-old actor was quoted saying:

"A few years ago, I said that Cuba Gooding Jnr would make an excellent Bond, but it was a joke! Although James may have been played by a Scot, a Welshman and an Irishman, I think he should be 'English-English'. Nevertheless, it's an interesting idea, but unrealistic."

When the backlash came into affect, the actor quickly took to Twitter to clear up confusion. He tweets:

"An interview I gave to Paris Match implies I said something racist about Idris Elba. That is simply untrue. ?#Lost in translation."

He also took the time out to further explain by responding to a followers tweet:

"@FrediSmith when a journalist asks if 'bond should be English' and you agree, then quotes you saying it about Idris Elba it's out of context."

Paris Match nor Idris Elba has come forward to respond to the claims. The actor has already recently gotten the approval of a number of previous James Bond actors, so it seems fairly unlikely that Moore would take such a stance.

Moore also retweeted a follower's tweet in his defense:

"Quote from ?@sirrogermoore didn't even mention ?@idriselba ,and does anyone find it wierd that DM added 'black actor' to the quote themselves?"
