'Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2' Movie News: ‘Game of Thrones’ Actor Gwendoline Christie Joins Cast [TRAILER]

The first official trailer for 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2,' released on June 9 briefly showed 'Game of Throne' actress Gwendoline Christie portraying the character of Commander Lyme.

Quoting a report in Entertainment Weekly, Christian Today states that Christie, well-know for her role as Brienne of Tarth in the popular HBO series 'Game of Thrones,' was not an original cast member of 'Hunger Gamed: Mockingjay - Part 2'and the role of Commander Lyme was initially given to actress Lily Rabe. However, Rabe dropped out of the film owing to her earlier commitment to 'Much Ado About Nothing.' Eventually, Christie was offered the role.

According to the books on which the film franchise is based, Lyme is an erstwhile Hunger Games champion and is from District 2, which the militaristic state of Panem. Moreover, District 2 is closest to the Capitol, thereby making it a very important location for the rebellion to claim as territory.

In the books, Lyme is described as a tall and strong woman standing over 6 feet. Incidentally, Christie herself is said to stand 6 feet 3 inches. In fact, Lyme will turn out to be one of the key figures in making District 2 go against the Capitol and lead its citizens to join Katniss Everdeen's (Jennifer Lawrence) war for liberty.

While Christie is very well-known for her role on 'Game of Thrones,' she will also be seen portraying the character of the mysterious Chrome Trooper, also known as Captain Phasma, in the upcoming sci-fi epic movie 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.' As per the description of the character in the books, Lyme is a member of the First Order, a remnant of the Empire, but it is not clear if Phasma is actually a villain or simply fighting on the wrong side.

Now, being included as a cast member of 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2,' Christie is currently a part of three of the leading franchises on TV as well as cinema.

In an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, Christie said, "I can't help but feel like the unlikeliest girl at school," adding, "I never thought I'd be in these amazing projects."

'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2' is scheduled to release on Nov. 20.
