HTC One vs. iPhone 5: Camera, Specs, Features, Price / New Smartphone King in 2013? [VIDEO]

For years now the Apple iPhone has been unconditionally referred to as the top smartphone on the market. Samsung changed the game in 2012 with the Galaxy S4. In 2013, the HTC One is challenging the iPhone 5 for top spot.

First let's compare the size of the iPhone 5 and the HTC One. The iPhone 5 is slimmer and lighter than the HTC One. The iPhone 5 is 58.7mm wide and weighs 112 grams, while the HTC One is 68.2mm and 143 grams. Smaller hands can grip the iPhone 5 while the HTC One may seem a bit cumbersome.

Display is an important aspect for any smartphone. The HTC One has a larger 4.7-inch screen and supports 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080) with 468 pixels per inch. Apple's iPhone 5 display maxes out at 1135 x 640 and 326 ppi.

When it comes down to operating system it's pretty subjective. You either like iOS or Android. Usually it's the one you're more comfortable navigating. Apple certainly has a larger selection of apps in the App Store. iOS 6 also does a good of fixing bugs with constant updates sent straight to the phone. Android does pack a punch and creates a more exciting user experience. The HTC One runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and packs features like HTC Share, HTC Zoe, remote control.

The HTC One runs on the Snapdragon 600 quad-core 1.7GHz processor. Apple's own A6 dual-core 1GHz processor works great, but one is simply faster and more efficient than the other. The nod goes to the HTC One.

Though you may not believe it, sometimes less megapixels can be better than more. The HTC One may only come with a 4-megapixel camera (half of the iPhone 5), but with 5 different levels of flash, that all auto-adjust, taking pictures with the HTC One camera is easy as pie. The iPhone 5's 8-megapixel camera has relatively similar photo quality but doesn't have nearly as many features.

With all of the specs and features aside, the price may be the biggest tipping point.

When the HTC One was first release T-Mobile offered the phone for $107, and unlimited data for $55/month. AT&T, Sprint and Verizon priced the 32GB HTC One at $199 with a two-year contract. $299 for the 64GB HTC One.
