Darlene Zschech, Singer of 'Shout to the Lord,' Revealed She has Breast Cancer, 'Word of God is Holding Me'

Over the holidays, Psalmist Darlene Zschech revealed on her church website that she was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Many have labeled Zschech as a "pioneer of the modern worship movement." She is the former worship pastor of Hillsong Church and currently a senior pastor of Hope Unlimited Church.

After the holidays Zschech and her husband Mark revealed the chilling news on their church's website to their congregation.

"Mark and I wanted to share with you some news that has touched our family over the last two weeks. On Wednesday, December 11, at a routine mammogram, the doctors discovered that I had developed breast cancer. Since then, it has been a whirlwind of appointments, scans and surgery. Thankfully though, I came home from the hospital on Christmas Eve," she wrote.

"Even though the past days have been very tough at times, the Holy Spirit has brought me endless comfort and the Word of God is literally holding me moment by moment," Zschech continued.

Her biggest song to date is, "Shout to the Lord" as it has become one of the most famous modern worship songs of all time being sung by an estimated 25-30 million churchgoers since the song's release and has appeared on more than 200 different albums by various artists in multiple languages.

The psalmist is remaining upbeat and positive through this entire ordeal and tells us that the Word of God is what is sustaining her.

"Through all of this, my heart is overwhelmed with God's love and goodness. Psalm 1, Eph 3, Jeremiah 30, Psalm 66:12 ... 'we went through fire, and through water, but YOU brought us out to rich fulfillment'; Psalm 41:1-3 ... the list goes on and on and the WORD of God sustains me."

"I DO know that 2014 is going to be AMAZING. I pray you are rested up and refreshed in this season and ready for all that God has planned for us TOGETHER to achieve for His glory! Just keep bringing thanksgiving because this is the entry point to His courts, where our hearts are fueled and our souls find peace."

She added that she is comforted in knowing that her supporters will be praying and encouraged prayer not only for herself but also for others that are suffering challenges. She ended her note off with a declaratory Scripture.

Romans 5:3-5 ... 'not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance character and character HOPE. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.'
