A recent report made its way around the web about Hillsong New York that claimed an openly gay couple was leading the popular church's choir. Senior Pastor Brian Houston has since released a statement putting those rumors to rest.

In a media release shared on August 4th Pastor Houston penned a note addressing the salacious rumors titled 'Hillsong Church Statement by Senior Pastor Brian Houston.'

The couple in question were featured on the current season of "Survivor" and were involved in leadership but once the announcement of their engagement was made known to the pastors they were asked to step down.

See the full statement below:

"I wish to correct reports that Hillsong church has 'an openly gay couple directing a choir' at our New York City campus. Hillsong's position on homosexuality and gay marriage has not changed and is consistent with Scripture. As I have stated previously, I believe the writings of Paul are clear on this subject. Several months ago when one of our choir directors made an unexpected public statement regarding his engagement to a man who sometimes sang in the choir, it was a complete surprise to us as well. It is my understanding that they have not been involved in an active leadership or ministry role since. That said, we still love them and acknowledge that they - like all of us - are on a journey, and our role as a church is to assist them on this journey with grace and compassion."

In a blog post titled 'Do I Love Gay People?' Houston further elaborated on Hillsong's stance on homosexuality.

"Hillsong Church accepts and welcomes ALL people, but does not support all lifestyles. Plainly, we not affirm the homosexual lifestyle and therefore not consciously put gay people in positions of leadership, whether paid or unpaid. I recognize that this statement itself may upset people on both sides of this discussion, which points to the complexity of the issue for all churches around the world," he wrote.

Although Houston maintained that all are welcomed he did say some are not. "Everyone is welcome to Hillsong Church except sexual predators, those who want to cause disruption, or those who have conflicting objectives," he stated.
