'Hannibal' Season 3 Cast News, Spoilers 2014: 'X-Files' Gillian Anderson Promoted to Series Regular

New reports are claiming that Gillian Anderson has been promoted to series regular on the popular NBC drama 'Hannibal'. Fans will get the chance to catch more of their favorite 'X-Files' star when 'Hannibal' returns for Season 3 in 2015.

TVLine revealed that Anderson who played the role of Bedelia du Maurier, the cannibal's shrink, in various Season 1 and 2 episodes, will be a regular in the upcoming installment.

Fans might have been able to guess that NBC and the show's producers would make a move like this by the events that happened in Season 2. It could have been puzzled together that Bedelia du Maurier was going to play a more prominent role further along in the storyline.

Executive producer, Bryan Fuller, actually hinted about this during the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con event.

In terms of spoilers, the Season 3 premiere episode will pick up roughly one year after Hannibal and Bedelia take off to Europe. Basically, the first episode is going to focus on Mads Mikkelsen and Gillian Anderson's characters.

On a side note, Gillian Anderson's latest role on NBC's 'Crisis' didn't turn out too well for her. Apparently, the show was canceled last Spring, but that's good for fans of 'Hannibal' as she can now focus more of her time with the popular television drama.

Fuller went on in an interview with TVLine about how the cast and crew feel about all of this. He said, "The cast and crew of Hannibal are positively giddy to be welcoming Gillian to Season 3 as a series regular,"

He went on to say, "A striking presence on stage and screen, she brings wit, grace and intelligence to every role she embodies. Screenwriting is so much easier when you're inspired by a great actor and Gillian has filled the 'Hannibal' writers room with wonderful inspiration."

Adding, "I can't wait for audiences to see her make a bigger meal out of the Cannibal than ever before."
