Hacker Group Anonymous Attacks Twitter Accounts Supposedly Belonging to Jihadists

The hacker group called Anonymous targeted alleged terrorist Twitter accounts as a revenge for the recent attack on French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo, in Paris.

The group also claimed to have taken down a pro-jihadist site and announced it on Twitter via username @OpCharileHebdo with a screenshot of the hacked site that has been redirected to search engine DuckDuckGo.

They wrote: "#TangoDown : http://ansar-alhaqq.net Expect us. #JeSuisCharlie #OpCharlieHebdo #CharlieHebdo."

On Saturday, Anonymous published a YouTube video entitled "#OpCharlieHebdo" that showed a collection of black and white photos of the recent attack on Charlie Hebdo. The clip highlighted the words "Time for Tears" and "Time for Action."

At the end of the video, the person in a "Guy Fawkes" mask called out to the citizens of the world and narrated the brutal deaths in Charlie Hebdo. Anonymous believes that the attack was a "cowardly and despicable act."

In a Pastebin post, Anonymous posted the entire statement in the video clip.

Part of the statement reads: "Anonymous has always fought for the freedom of speech, and will never let this right besmirched by obscurantism and mysticism. 'Charlie Hebdo', historical figure of satirical journalism has been targeted.

"Anonymous must remind every citizens that the press's freedom is a fundement of the democracy. Opinions, speech, newspaper articles without threats nor pressure, all those things are rights you can't change."

The group ended the message saying that they do not forget and forgive. Links to their Internet Relay Chat sites and Twitter accounts were posted below the statement.

Aside from that, the group listed on Pastebin a total of 70 sites that are reportedly owned by jihadists. Anonymous named five websites that they will attack soon and revealed that more sites will be added, according to Wired.

The group Anonymous remains as a mysterious organization that "operates on ideas rather than directives."
