'Gotham' Season 3 Episode 12 Spoilers, Cast News: James Is Detective James Gordon's Uncle Frank [PROMO]

James Remar is the newest addition to the cast of "Gotham" season 3. The "Dexter"" star has joined the cast of the FOX series as Detective James Gordon's Uncle Frank.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Uncle Frank will return to the city after being away for 25 years. The site further revealed that the character keeps a dark secret that will force Jim to choose between saving his family and saving Gotham.

Frank is also described as "a master at playing both sides and a man who knows how to keep a secret."

Aside from his roles in "Dexter" and "The Warriors," Remar also appeared in "Battlestar Galactica" and "Vampire Diaries."

Meanwhile, FOX has already released a sneak preview for the second half of season 3. The preview focuses on the return of Jerome Valeska, who is now being considered as the leading candidate to become The Joker. Most of the footage is from season 2, but the preview also features new shots of a mysterious person walking towards a row of large containers that seem to contain and preserve human bodies. There are speculations that Jerome is one of them.

"Gotham" executive producer John Stephens revealed in August that Jerome would return, though he did not confirm how the murderous character would be brought back to life. In season 2, he was killed when Theo Galavan stabbed him in the neck. According to Stephens, his return will be built-up over season 3B, but his actual return will be in season 4.

The second half of "Gotham" season 3 airs in January 2017 on FOX.
