Google Glass Release Date, Specs, and Features: Is it Worth the Price?

There's nothing worse than a tantalizing piece of super-slick technology that is dangled in front of you but just beyond your reach. Google Glass is being offered to consumers with certain qualifications, but when will it be available to the general public? And will the final price tag meet expectations of a 'smartphone-esque' (according to the Latin Post) affordability?

Google Glass is boasting a completely new world for the exploration of those interested in smart phone technology. It's an innovative product that has several functions that looking from the outside one could only be described as 'neat.' For starters, google Glass is a pair of glasses with a screen in the upper right corner that can allow you to receive texts and e-mails. Secondly, there's a camera with a 720p video capture, notoriously capable of capturing footage in a relatively inconspicuous way.

The Glass is equipped with a bone conduction transducer, which is like headphones that transmit directly to the bones of your inner-ear. It allows for GPS navigation and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The real Space Odyssey stuff comes when you consider the capability of hooking up Google Glass to home appliances such as heating and lighting so that you can control everything with one piece of hands-free technology.

But what is the cost of this very futuristic little machine? Right now, Google Explorers, as they're called, can get a hold of a pair at a price of $1,500 as long as they are already a google plus member and hold a Google Wallet Account. You'll also need a personal invitation to buy Glass, which comes with a specialized Glass Code.

Some claim that a generalized release date will be announced for 2014, but as of yet there have been no official substantiation to those rumors. What we do know is that the price will be heavily reduced for general consumption when it comes out, maybe even reaching price-levels of a newly released smart-phone.
