'God's Not Dead' Movie News: Newsboys' Duncan Phillips Discusses Film and How Billy Graham Led His Family to Jesus Christ

Newsboys drummer Duncan Phillips, the band's lead vocalist Michael Tait, and the rest of the popular Christian band all made an appearance in the brand new 'God's Not Dead' movie which had a very successful opening in the box office over the weekend.

The movie was produced by Pure Flix Entertainment and Red Entertainment Group. The movie made approximately $8.56 million for a film that what was only released in select areas. The film debuted in movie theaters on Friday and was ranked in 5th place in the box office.

Phillips and his fellow Newsboys band members play as themselves in the new Christian film. In the movie, the Newsboys appear in a scene where they are performing at a concert.

"We learned our lines and got ready to do our parts when the time came. We were doing a show in Texas, which is when they showed up to do the filming," said Phillips in a article on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website. "When we got there, we saw about 50 crew people with all these cameras and equipment, and then I realized: this is the real deal."

Phillip's also revealed in the interview that when Billy Graham went on a crusades trip to his country Australia back in 1959, the legendary televangelist strengthened his young parents faith in Jesus Christ.

"It was a real pivotal point in the spiritual lives of my mom and dad. It had a massive impact on them," said Phillips on the site. "They have told me how that Crusade really galvanized their faith. It was the first time they had ever seen a mass of people gathered together under the banner of Christ."

Phillips then explained Billy Graham's profound impact in his life.

"So, the wonderful story here is because Billy Graham was used to ignite their faith, and I had the privilege of growing up under that mantle of faith. If it had not been for Billy Graham, I might not have been in the Newsboys, the song might not have been recorded, and thus the movie may not have been made. It's all really crazy to think about," continued Phillips.

"God's Not Dead" was directed by Harold Cronk, and stars Kevin Sorbo, Shane Harper, Dean Cain, and David A.R. White.
