'God's Not Dead' Movie Makers Release New 'God The Father' Film Based on Mobster John 'Sonny' Franzese Coming to Accept Jesus As Savior

The company responsible for the release of the popular "God's Not Dead" movie is now unveiling a new film based on the life of former mobster Michael Franzese and how he turned away from a life of crime after accepting Jesus Christ as his savior.

Freestyle Release's documentary "God The Father" will cover the ex-criminal's rise to power following in his father's footsteps (John 'Sonny' Franzese, a former underboss inside the Columbo mob family) before he was arrested for counterfeiting, extortion, tax scams, and racketeering.

Franzese later came to repent of his sinful ways when he accepted Christ into his life inside a prison back in 1987. He was released from prison in 1994, after he was originally indicted back in 1985 on 14 counts.

"Freestyle was immediately onboard this provocative film when we saw it," said Freestyle Releasing's Co-President Mark Borde to Variety. "The journey of Franzese from outlaw to devout believer is one that will spark interest in a wide variety of audiences, and we very much look forward to working with the filmmakers on taking their message to the masses."

The 62-year-old Brooklyn native is also an author of numerous books including, "The Good, the Bad, and the Forgiven" and "Quitting the Mob," where he explained his past life and how it changed after receiving redemption through faith in Jesus. He credits his wife Camille Garcia as the person who led him to Christ and helped him to leave the mob for good nearly three decades ago.

Freestyle Release's "God's Not Dead" made more than $57 million in the box office this year and the company is hoping the upcoming film will have similar success. The "God The Father" film is expected to arrive in movie theaters in October 2014.
