‘Gambit’ Release Date News: Lead Role Channing Tatum Confirms Film on Twitter

It has been announced by 20th Century Fox that their upcoming 'X-Men' spinoff film 'Gambit' will come out in theaters on October 7, 2016.

Remy Etienne LeBeau a.k.a. Gambit first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1990, and was first introduced in movies by Fox in its 2009 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'. At the time, he was played by Taylor Kitsch and fans didn't quite warm up to the character's adaptation.

This time Fox has tapped 'G.I. Joe' alum Channing Tatum to play the kinetic-powered mutant. Tatum even sent out a tweet on Jan. 6 to confirm the release date, saying, "How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?"

During a previous interview, Tatum also claimed that he and the team were working hard on the 'Gambit' film.

"We really do want to try our hardest to give something fresh," he said, "We kind of want to introduce this character in a very different way. When you try to do something different, you never really know right off the bat what that is. We're feeling our way into it. And we really just gotta prove that concept of that person."

Remy LeBeau, born of New Orleans, is known for his Cajun accent, his ability to charge objects and make them explode with one touch, and his signature weapons, a deck of playing cards and a staff.

He was abandoned by his parents for his red eyes and was stolen by the New Orleans Thieves Guild, having been thought to be the prophesied child that will unite the guilds of thieves. He became a professional thief before he was brought into the X-Men by Professor X and Storm.

'Gambit' is now the third 'X-Men' movie coming out in 2016, following 'Deadpool' on Feb. 12 and 'X-Men: Apocalypse' on May 27.
