Flyleaf's Kristen May, Jared Hartmann, and Pat Seals sat down with BREATHEcast for a BC Pulse segment to talk about the new record, transitions, Christianity in the mainstream, and being a female in a male dominated industry.

May has been with Flyleaf for two years now, and their new album Between the Stars, is her first full length project with the band. The frontwoman briefly spoke about that transition time, and revealed a little into what was going on in her own life, coming from a band that had just broken up.

"I was really in a time in my life when I was unsure...really in a place in the wilderness" she said. At the time May was working in a coffee shop when she received a call from the guys and everything just gelled with the members at the try out.

May said some fans are supportive, some are not, but she tries not to pay attention to what people say online and said most people who reach out on Twitter are supportive.

Seals said May added "freedom and spontaneity to the writing process" and the lineup is just as good as ever before.

May was asked about being a female in a male dominated industry, and did not really seem bothered or intimidated by it. "I had brothers growing up. I was kind of rolling in the dirt playing soccer and t-ball. I've never had a hard time making guys' friends. It can be a challenge for females in an industry that is very sex driven," she said, adding that women singers are expected to look or be portrayed in a certain way.

Lastly, Flyleaf stated their message has not changed over the years. They are not afraid to continue on creating faith based music. "Reminds me more, why I believe and reminds me more of where I have to go," said May.

"No matter how our faith is manifested in different ways, we have each other," she continued about being Christians in the mainstream.
