Floyd Mayweather Next Fight Rumors: Manny Pacquaio Fight Confirmed? Rematch vs Maidana?

Floyd Mayweather, a five-division world champion with a perfect 46-0 record, is not slowing down after winning the recent Marcos Maidana fight, the legendary boxer is setting himself up to be back in the ring on September 13.

While there is no definitive answer to the question of who will face Mayweather, there is some speculation on the matter floating about. The name on the top of the list, is Maidana; fans are hoping for a rematch between the two. "Maidana gave Mayweather his toughest fight in the last few years, and he's called for a rematch following his narrow defeat. Mayweather has indicated that he'd be willing to agree to a rematch, though a second fight wouldn't likely be as competitive as the first."according to news outlet, ibtimes.

Setting the rematch aside, what fans are really hoping to see is a fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. This long awaited bout has been through discussions and negotiations for months, and recently good news about the would-be showstopper surfaced, "Great news in the world of boxing. He [the source] is telling me that Floyd and Manny Pacquiao will be fighting in 2014 guaranteed and it's already done, everything else that you will see will be just theatrics from here on out. But the fight is already done" an anchor from 78Sports said in his commentary.

Floyd and Manny have both been successful in the early months of this year's boxing season, and a possible fight between them will most likely to push through to the next year, "I think that fight will eventually happen, we are certainly open to the fight happening and we are prepared to sit down with (the Mayweather team) at any time and work out terms." Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, told Reuters

So far the Mayweather team doesn't have a final say on the champion's next opponent but according to them the venue for his next bout is at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

"[Barclays Center chief executive] Brett [Yormark] and those guys at the Barclays Center made a tremendous offer for the Maidana fight and I'm sure they'll be looking to be in the Floyd Mayweather business again come September, but the MGM is Floyd's home and they are always the leading candidate," said Mayweather Promotions chief executive Leonard Ellerbe on ESPN.com
