Exodus Gods and Kings Movie Cast News: Christian Bale Discusses Pressure of Playing Moses After Charlton Heston in 'Ten Commandments'

The Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale recently talked about his role as Moses and the pressure of the playing biblical hero after Charlton Heston's memorable performance in the 1956 classic film titled The Ten Commandments.

"Charlton Heston does Charlton Heston better than anyone," said Bale to Entertainment Weekly, "But the biblical account of Moses is extraordinary, and there was lots of room for us to go to places that (Heston's movie) The Ten Commandments never dreamed of going."

According to the Express website, the 40-year-old actor has reportedly trained and bulked up in preparation for the epic fight scenes for the potential box office smash hit movie.

In the previous article, Bale explains why he so mesmerized to play the Old Testament protagonist in the upcoming film.

"He's one of the most fascinating characters that I've ever studied," said Bale to Entertainment Weekly.

This references the prophet leader who led his enslaved people to freedom after God sent 10 plagues after Egyptian Pharaoh Rhamses II would not let the Jewish people worship God in peace. Bale added, "I think Achilles is described as the most passionate man alive but I think Moses would give him a very good run for his money."

The actor also warned viewers that the biblical film will deal with serious themes discovered in the bible like slavery.

"There's nothing mild about the Exodus or Moses," said Bale.

Bale leads an all-star cast that includes Aaron Paul (Moses' friend and successor Joshua), Sigourney Weaver (Tuya), Ben Kingsley (Joshua's father Nun), John Turturro (Seti) and Joel Edgerton as Moses' adopted brother and nemesis Pharaoh Rhamses II.

"When you're (film director) Ridley [Scott], you pick up the phone and people will turn up," said Edgerton, in reference to the cast that has multiple legendary actors. "I had to battle demons of self-doubt to feel like I belonged in this club."

Exodus: Gods and Kings is slated to arrive in movie theaters on December 12, 2014.
