Emma Watson News: 'Harry Potter' Actress Speaks Out About Gender Equality

Emma Watson was once a child actor in the Harry Potter franchise, but she has definitely outgrown her 10-year-old shoes. Now Watson has blossomed into a young lady - and a powerful speaker and proponent for gender equality.

At only 24-years-old, Watson first got our attention when she spoke at the UN about the HeForShe campaign. "I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and decisions that affect my life," the feminist declared, "If you believe in equality, I implore you: we must strive for a united world but the good news is we have a platform. It is called he for she."

Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson raised the issue in September, and her inspiring speech was filmed and posted on YouTube. In 24 hours, the video had gone viral, sparked over a billion social media conversations, and ended in a popular #HeForShe hashtag. Men all around the world committed to the cause.

Now, the actress has given a speech at the World Economic Forum to update us on her cause.

"Everyone, from Desmond Tutu to Prince Harry to Hillary Clinton to Yoko Ono have issued their support or contacted us since Sept. 20," Watson said, "I couldn't have dreamed it, but it's happened. Thank you so much."

Equality for men and women has been an ongoing issue for a long time, but it is hasn't been brought up in such a public format before. Thanks to Emma Watson, the campaign is finally getting the attention it deserves.
