Emery Release 'Thrash' on Break It Down Podcast off 'You Were Never Alone'; New Song is Heaviest Track to Date

Emery

Christian rock band Emery unveiled the second track, "Thrash" off their upcoming album You Were Never Alone in their new weekly podcast, "Break It Down."

The song can be heard exclusively on AbsolutePunk.net or heard on iTunes if subscribed to the "Break It Down" podcast.

After last week's debut of "Rock, Pebble, Stone" and its soft harmonies to lead off the album, the band is debuting what they are calling their "heaviest" song to date. Lead vocalist Toby Morrell said the song is "almost a hardcore" song. The best comparison to the sound would be 2011's "Cheval Glass" off We Do What We Want.

Emery is known for having their records blast off with sound, for example the aforementioned "Cheval Glass" and the extremely popular "Walls."

Last week they joked on "Rock, Pebble, Stone" being so uncharacteristically light for them. "Feels like a wussy song for 200 pound mid-30's dads to be writing such emo stuff and less the first track of the album, but hey, that's what we do!" said guitarist Matt Carter in the podcast.

"Thrash" could not be any more different, and is appropriately named. The song is quite diverse, and features that hardcore element they mentioned, but then breaks down into a lovely jazzy/blues section. With this structure, the song becomes almost like a prog track.

Whereas last week they showed off the song 43 minutes in, this time they placed it about two and half minutes in so they could refer to the track right away.

This podcast is separate from their already popular Bad Christian Podcast, and is run by band members Carter and vocalist Toby Morrell. Emery's upcoming album You Were Never Alone, will be debuted in its entirety over the period of 12 weeks with one new song premiering per episode and the album dropping on May 19 on BC Music.

Also, one other notable is that guitarist and vocalist Devin Shelton will be marking his return after temporarily leaving the band for their last record.

Emery recently announced they will be playing a show with fellow post hardcore band Silverstein May 13th in Honolulu, HI at Hawaiian Brian's. The show will be part of Silverstein's Discovering the Waterfront 10 year anniversary tour, and tickets went on sale February 25.
